For example, the "File" menu is pulled down by Alt-F. You can also access the menu by pressing F10 or clicking the mouse on the desired menu item. The desk top contains a menu, background and status line. All work takes place on the desk top. The menu is accessed by pressing F10 or Alt+highlighted letter. For example, the File menu is pulled down by Alt+F. Use cursor keys to move and Enter to select. A mouse can be used by clicking on the desired item. Status line items are accessed by pressing Alt+highlighted letter or function key. For example, to exit press Alt+X. A mouse can be used by clicking on the desired item. File (Alt+F) The File menu includes choices for loading files, saving files, changing directories, shelling to DOS, viewing the document, file version information and exiting the program. File Load The Load menu allows you to load Character Generator Files .CGF (F3) or one bit PC Paintbrush .PCX (Shift+F3) images into font 2 table. o Configuration .CFG (Ctrl+F3) files contain VGA font tables 0 - 7, screen options, colors and the DAC palette. File Save The Save menu allows you to save Character Generator Files .CGF (F2) or one bit PC Paintbrush .PCX (Shift+F2) images from font 2 table. o Configuration .CFG (Ctrl+F2) files contain VGA font tables 0 - 7, screen options, colors and the DAC palette. File Change dir... Change dir brings up the Change directory dialog box, in which you can change the current directory. File DOS shell (F9) With the DOS Shell command, you can leave the program temporarily to perform a DOS command or run another program. 9 To return to this program, type EXIT at the DOS prompt. File View doc Loads CYBER.DOC into a scrolling window for viewing. CYBER.DOC contains information about CyberEdit. See ORDER.DOC or ORDER.TXT for ordering information. File About Displays version, copyright and mode information. File Exit (Alt+X) Terminates program. Window (Alt+W) The Window menu contains commands to close, move and perform other window-management commands. Most of the windows in this program have all the standard window elements, including scroll bars, a close box, and zoom icons. Window Tile Choose Window Tile to tile all file viewers on the desk top. L Tiled Windows Window Cascade Choose Window Cascade to stack all file viewers on the desk top. A Cascaded Windows Window Size/Move (Ctrl+F5) Choose this command to change the size or position of the active window. Size If you press Shift while you use the arrow keys, you can change the size of the active window. Once you've adjusted its size or position, press Enter. Q If a window has a Resize corner, you can drag that corner to resize the window. Move When you choose Window Size/Move, the active window moves in response to the arrow keys. Once you've moved the window to where you want it, press Enter. F You can also move a window by dragging its title bar with the mouse. Window Zoom (F5) Choose Zoom to resize the active window to the maximum size. If the window is already zoomed, you can choose this command to restore it to its previous size. { You can also double-click anywhere on the window's title bar (except where an icon appears) to zoom or unzoom the window. Window Next (F6) Choose Next to cycle forwards through the windows on the desk top. Window Close (Alt+F3) Choose Close to close the active window. O You can also click the Close box in the upper right corner to close a window. Window Selector (F7) Selector brings up the Selector window where you can select characters to edit. Window Tool bar (Shift+F7) Commonly used functions have been grouped together in a graphic tool bar. Tab to move and Enter to select function. You can also click on the icon with a mouse. Options (Alt+O) The Options menu contains commands that let you set screen options, change the colors, adjust the VGA palette and restore the default font. Options Screen... (Alt+S) Screen brings up the Screen dialog box, where you can customize the appearance of the desk top. Options Colors... Colors brings up the Colors dialog box, where you can customize the colors of the desk top. Make sure you use only the first 8 colors (0 - 7), since the last 8 colors (8 - 15) are reserved for font 2 table. You may have to set font 2 table to the same VGA table as font 1 table to see the color block next to the names. Remember that colors 8 - 15 are for font 2 table, so there is no telling what it contains. Options Adjust palette... Adjust palette brings up the Adjust palette dialog box, where you adjust the VGA's DAC registers to any of the 262,144 possible colors. Options Default font (F4) Loads the default font into font 1 table. The default font is the last font in effect prior to saving the configuration. Selector window The status line in the window indicates what character the cursor is on in decimal and hexadecimal. Double click to select character. The character editor allows you to modify the character you selected. The font table and character code are displayed at the top of the editor. Home moves to left most character End moves to right most character Arrow keys move around window Enter copies editor to font table Space toggle pixels Holding down the left mouse button draws and the right button erases. Adjust palette dialog box Select color to adjust. The color names are arbitrary and can be made any color. You may have to set font 2 table to the same VGA table as font 1 table to see the color block next to the names. Remember that colors 8 - 15 are for graphics, so there is no telling what is in font 2 table. Color Black Gray Blue Light Blue Green Light Green Cyan Light Cyan Red Light Red Magenta Light Magenta Brown Yellow Light Gray White The Red, Green and Blue sliders allow you the change the RGB levels of the current color. The [Cancel] or [Default] buttons restores the VGA palette to the colors in effect prior to adjustments. Red Green Blue Screen dialog box The Screen dialog allows you to set various screen modes and select which VGA font tables to use. Windows 3.x and other OSs that allow task switching may corrupt VGA font tables 2 - 7 during task switches. Only the two BIOS supported tables 0 and 1 are restored correctly under Windows 3.1 with some VGA drivers. You can save your current configuration prior to task switching and later load it if needed. W Use 640 X 400 to eliminate one pixel gaps caused by standard 720 X 400 VGA text mode. Paging causes VGA screen page 0 to be copied between pages 1 and 2. This help smooth movement and eliminate flicker. If the desk top becomes too sluggish then you may want to turn off Paging. 8 color mode masks off the high bit of all attribute nibbles forcing colors 8 - 15 the be the same as 0 - 7. If 8 color mode is turned off then all 16 colors can be used. Screen Mode 640 X 400 Paging 8 Colors Select which VGA font table to use for the desk top. Make sure that a font resides in the desired VGA table or the screen may turn to garbage. If this happens just restore the default font. Font 1 table Select which VGA font table to use for editing fonts. If font 2 table is set the same as font 1 table when you load a PCX file then the screen will turn to garbage. If this happens just restore the default font. Font 2 table When saving fonts as .CGF files you can specify the first and last character to save. % First char Last char File dialog box The File dialog box contains an input box, a file list, a file information panel and a history list that's attached to the Name input box. p Name The Name input box is where you enter the name of the file to load, or the file-name mask to use as a filter for the Files list box (for example, *.*). Change dir dialog box The Change directory dialog box consists of an input box, a list box, OK, Chdir and Revert buttons. | Directory Name The Directory Name input box is where you type in the path of the new directory. Directory Tree Drives C:\ CYEDIT BOLDFNTS The Directory Tree list box enables you to navigate directories by using the selecting bar and pressing Enter. If you're using the keyboard, press Enter to make the selected directory be the current directory, then choose OK or press Esc to exit the dialog box. % Chdir The Chdir button changes the current directory once you've selected or typed in a directory name. % Revert The Revert button goes back to the previous directory, as long as you haven't yet exited the dialog box. Colors dialog box This dialog box is where you can change the colors of different parts of this program. Group Desktop Menus Help Gray Windows Blue Windows Cyan Windows The Group list box contains the names of the different regions of the program that you can customize. L Item Color When you select a group from the Group list, the Item list box displays the names of the different views in that region. Foreground Background Text Text Text Text Text Text The display text shows the current color or attribute settings. a Changes do not take effect on the desktop until you close the Colors dialog box by choosing OK. Window Close all Choose Close all to remove all windows from the desk top. Window Previous (Shift+F6) Choose Previous to cycle backwards through the windows on the desk top.
